Day 3 (P2) of 10 of Our Epic Summer Journey
UTAH'S SCENIC BYWAY 12 ~ A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
DAY 3 - Part 2: Scenic Byway 12
"Nestled between Capital Reef and Bryce Canyon National Parks, Scenic Byway 12 is located in one of the most beautiful places on earth." ~ America's Byways
It's been awhile since my last post... but life just HAPPENS! I left my old job to start with an amazing new company in my hometown and we've spent wonderful weekends making fabulous memories with family and friends over the past several weeks. At any rate, I'm hoping to begin dedicating some time to my blog (and writing!) again.
*** So... let's pick up where we left off! ***
I've always had a thing for back roads and 'taking the long way home'. This trip was no different! And while we had a pretty aggressive schedule to head to the Arches, we couldn't resist taking the 'scenic route' from Bryce Canyon. I don't doubt that any drive we had taken from Point A to Point B (in this case... Point Bryce to Point Arches) would've been beautiful, but the "Scenic Byway 12" has a quite a few accolades!! This 124-mile winding path has been considered to be one of America's Scenic Byways, named an "All American Road" in 2002, appears on lists of the "World's Most Beautiful Highways" and is said to be one of the most spectacular drives in the Western United States.
Let's just say... it DEFINITELY did NOT disappoint! It added about an hour or so to our drive, but the extra time spent was priceless. If you're looking for an authentic, unspoiled and peaceful place in the heart of wild Utah... be sure to take this drive. It's almost like setting your watch back 40 years!
The "Million Dollar Highway" (with Million Dollar Views!!):
The Civilian Conversation Corps began construction in 1935 and the road's nickname was reflective of the cost of its construction at the time. Initially, the road ended in Boulder Town but by 1975, its entire length was paved and open to all for travel.

When they say the cattle are "Open Range"... they totally mean it!! We saw several herds of free-ranging cattle. |
Did you miss Day 3 (P1)? See it HERE!
Cheers, y'all!!
