A Few of My Favorite... True Crime Podcasts
New To Podcasts? Me Too!
Those who know me well know that I've always been a sucker for a true crime mystery.
I'm an avid fan of Forensic Files and deep down believe that I would've made a damn good detective! I've always loved the show Bones and most of my favorite books, t.v. shows and movies (and now podcasts!) all have a "who-dunnit" attached to them. To say that I love true crime stories is a complete understatement. There's even a running joke in my house, because it doesn't matter if we've watched CBS, NBC or ESPN, every single time we turn our "smart" t.v. on in the evenings, it never fails to locate an episode of Forensic Files.
I've always loved to read when I make time, but several of my friends suggesting listening to audiobooks and podcasts. When I decided to give it a try, I started with one another girlfriend couldn't stop raving about.

1. The podcast of the podcasts that got me hooked on them and the first I ever listened to is "Unforgotten: The Unsolved Murder of Matt Stewart." While there are so many true crime podcasts out there that are getting rave reviews, I decided to start with this one because it is about a local Iredell County man who was murdered in 2009. This particular podcast initially intrigued me because I also lived in Mooresville, North Carolina, from 2001 until 2013, also where Matt was born and raised. Listen and decide for yourself if you believe this was a home invasion gone wrong. To this day, the case continues to be unsolved.

2. Culpable, the next podcast on the listening list is similar in nature, but is based on Christian Andriacchio from Meridian, Mississippi. Christian was found dead in his apartment with a single gunshot wound to the head in 2014. After a 45-minute investigation and autopsy, the death was ruled a suicide. His family later found evidence that pointed to premeditated murder. Christian's mom Rae always believed foul play was involved, so she hired a private investigator. The producers of this podcast have additionally offered a hefty $100,000 reward for additional information that could lead to an arrest for Christian's death.

3. One of the more popular and newer podcasts is To Live and Die in LA. In 2018, aspiring Hollywood actress, Adea Shabani, was last seen in February, leaving her apartment building with her on-and-off-again boyfriend, Chris Spotz. The last text she ever sent (asking where to purchase a red candle) was received shortly after leaving the apartment and she was never heard from again. Her body was found a month later in a shallow grave - 400 miles from her home. Police suspect that it was Spotz who murdered Adea, but a week before her body was found, killed himself in a police chase and standoff.

4. Woman meets Man. Woman falls for Man. Man ends up being a complete CON-MAN... and then attempted murderer. I highly suggest listening to the podcast before watching the show on Netflix. I think I especially like this podcast, because while it's not exactly the same story, there have been a few con artists previously in my family!

Granted, there is still a LOT of listening to do... but I thoroughly enjoyed all of these podcasts, as far as true crime is concerned. I have a running (and still growing!) list... but I'm happy to say that starting with these four did NOT disappoint.
I hope you enjoy and I'll be sure to add more reviews from the listening list soon!
Cheers, y'all!!
xoxo
